GRAB BENGA'S NEW ALBUM HERE  |  CHAPTER II

CHAPTER II - the latest release from the Dubstep Pioneer Benga shows a decided diversity of BPMs and final release of former dubplates.  Missing desperately from the line-up unquestionably is his mega-dubplate and extraordinary track yet-to-be-released: MINORS.  This is a major let down for fans of the tune, myself included; a welcomed addition to the already diverse releases found on the album. All-in-all Chapter II shows some interesting sides to the afro-warrior, with the release of the popular clubstep collab with Youngman - Choose 1 & Forefather ft Kano, along with the classic 'I Will Never Change' all the way to one of the most interesting tracks 'There's No Soul'.  Chapter II shows the artist's growth from the old-sound of dubstep into a new hybrid-step-electronica ['YELLOW'] which I guess is to be expected. 'To Hell and Back' remains the favourite track - just heavy and deserving of total bass-face. 'Running' finally sees release, and there's a lovely intro-esque track called 'Click and Tap'. Every song is its own unique character/'High Speed' tons of swag, 'Waiting' is pure emotion - all good. The album is worth a pick up if you're a new fan of Benga, but decidedly for long-time fans looking for that instant-classic vibe found on Diary of an Afro Warrior and Phaze One - you may need a few extra listen throughs. He's changed. The scene has changed - but not quite that much. ENJOY!

Whether or not Dean J Grenier (aka DJG) is trying to get out of dubstep is debatable. His latest release VOIDS THREE still houses that signature sound that Grenier strives for - the perfect rave space; much to Grenier's attempts at diverging from dubstep it will likely be picked up by more than a few dubstep djs.  The production values in Dean's music, his obsession with bass, the sound-system culture and it's permeated mutations, keep the dubstep crews satisfied to try these tracks out in a mix.  It seems by and large that Grenier's VOIDS THREE is a definitive culmination from previous years spent in the lurching 140bpm trenches coupled with the artist's signature warm synth/bass treatment.  Rest assured that these tracks while not posing as future or post-dubstep will likely work their way into many bassheads' mixes.
